Rukungiri Man Killed in Love Dispute, Three Arrested

Police in Rukungiri District have arrested three suspects in connection with the assault and subsequent death of Kakuru Gideon, also known as Hakizimana Kaboy, a 24-year-old resident of Kanyankyende Cell, Nyabitete Parish in Bugangari Sub-county.

According to Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate, the suspects have been identified as Nsimire Justine, Ndyamuhaki Posiano, and Murokozi John.

Maate explained that on Saturday evening, a dispute arose at Nsimire Justine’s bar located in Kanyankyende Trading Centre.

The victim, Kakuru Gideon, reportedly expressed romantic interest in Nsimire, which was strongly opposed by her brothers, Ndyamuhaki Posiano and Murokozi John.

The disagreement escalated into a physical altercation, during which the two brothers allegedly assaulted Kakuru, leaving him unconscious by the roadside.

The area Chairperson, Wilber Habaasa, was alerted and rushed to the scene. He, along with others, attempted to take Kakuru to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead before arrival.

The incident was reported to Bugangari Police Station. Officers visited the scene, processed and documented it, and arrested the suspects to aid ongoing investigations.

Maate confirmed that the body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary for postmortem examination.
