Former presidential candidate Nancy Kalembe has picked up nomination forms at the Electoral Commission, signaling her intent to contest in the upcoming presidential elections.

Kalembe, who ran in the 2021 elections and garnered 38,772 votes, is making a comeback with a renewed commitment to transformative leadership.

“When I am president, our education system will be overhauled. If you want to destroy a society, undervalue the teacher. We will dwell on their welfare so that their dignity is given back to them,” Kalembe said, highlighting her focus on education reform.

Kalembe’s platform is expected to emphasize economic empowerment, education, and healthcare reforms, aiming to provide equitable opportunities for all citizens.

She has also urged the government to refrain from involving the army in politics and encouraged her fellow candidates to avoid inciting their supporters during the election period.

“We won’t dwell on what has happened. Future-focused harnessing future technologies and knowledge,” Kalembe noted.

With over 160 individuals having picked up nomination forms, the presidential race is shaping up to be highly competitive.

She says her candidacy adds to the diversity of voices in the political landscape, particularly female leadership adding her campaign is poised to inspire more women to participate actively in leadership roles, contributing to a more inclusive and representative democratic process.

“I am hopeful Uganda is ready for its first female commander in chief and female president,” Kalembe said, expressing her determination to break the glass ceiling.
