Denis Ndyomugyenyi Nzeirwe, the former Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Kyankwanzi, has been declared the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the position of Kabale District LC5 Chairman.

Ndyomugyenyi emerged victorious after securing 43,667 votes, defeating the incumbent LC5 Chairman, Nelson Nshangabasheija, who garnered 33,860 votes.

The hotly contested primary attracted three aspirants: Nshangabasheija, who was seeking a second term; Ndyomugyenyi; and Counsel Wilbroad Atwebembeire Rwamunahe, the legal advisor for PEAS Traders in Uganda.

Rwamunahe trailed with 2,610 votes out of a total of 80,137 votes cast.

Kabale District NRM Returning Officer, Babra Ainebyoona, officially declared Ndyomugyenyi the winner.

Meanwhile, Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, said the elections were generally peaceful, with a few minor incidents that were swiftly handled.
